Project Description

Kentucky journalist investigates nursing home violations & government fines is no doubt an eye-catching headline.

Dive deeper into the story and you’ll find Louisville, Kentucky based investigative reporter, John Charlton, digging into a paper trail.

Follow the money

Charlton spent hours sifting through government documents. He wanted to learn if nursing home facilities in his region were facing fines for various violations in practices. Some which might directly impact clients in need.

The next step was to cross-reference those facilities with information from the Federal Government. The goal was to figure out if any of those same facilities had received Covid-19 relief funds.

In this segment, we talk about what he discovered and we learn how any of us can research care facilities in our own communities.
