Happy Mother’s Day 2023

Hello KIRC family!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day, 2023!

This greeting is for any and all who are…

  • Mothers

  • Caregivers to a parent, sibling, other relative

  • Professional caregivers who by default tend to emotionally adopt many of their clients

  • Children who have taken on the role of ‘mom or dad’ to an aging parent

This Mother’s Day, I am reflecting a bit on my mother, Nellie P. Yarbough and the many experiences and moments we spent along the journey.

I miss my mom every day. I do not believe that will ever change. The solace I now find in this yearly holiday however, is the ability to look back and feel thankful I was able to provide my mother a secure, peaceful, and loving final chapter of life.

For those of you who may be marking this year as your first Mother’s Day since losing your mom, my deepest condolences to you and your families. My wish for you is to use a part of this day to sit still, reflect, and allow yourself to feel whatever wave of emotions you might be feeling.

Take a moment to see how others have chosen to honor their mothers on this day.

I propose we all do one little thing in honor of those who are no longer with us. Choose something you recall always made your mother happy. Then sit with the thoughts of ‘why’ you believe that item – whatever it may be – made your mother happy. KIRC would love to hear some of your stories – share with us!?

Perhaps this is a way for all of us to connect to a time now gone, but an emotion and feeling that has the power to live on.

My mother always enjoyed flowers. I am thankful our home here in Northern California offered up many varieties and all we had to do was look out the window or go for a walk.
